Team Formidables emerged triumphant at the 8th All India Shree Cement Bridge Championship 2025 Team of Four event, held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata. Showcasing exceptional teamwork and strategic brilliance, the team outplayed strong contenders over four days of intense competition. Their victory in the prestigious Team of Four event capped off a thrilling tournament that featured some of the country’s best bridge talent. The win reinforces Formidables’ reputation as one of India's premier bridge teams.

The 8th All India Shree Cement Bridge Championship 2025 concluded on May 4 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Kolkata, marking a significant milestone in Indian bridge. Organized by the Corporate Bridge Association of India under the aegis of the Bridge Federation of India (BFI) and the West Bengal Bridge Association (WBBA), the four-day event featured intense competition among top-tier players from across the country.

Final Day Highlights

The final day showcased the culmination of strategic brilliance and resilience. Teams and pairs engaged in high-stakes matches, with the top performers emerging as champions in their respective categories. The event's structure included Team of Four, Matchpoint Pairs, IMP Pairs, and BAM events, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for players to demonstrate their skills.

Notable Outcomes

  • Team of Four: The team event saw intense battles, with top teams displaying exceptional coordination and strategy. After a notable fight Formidable (Sumit Mukherjee, Rajeswar Tewari, Kaustabh Nandi, Sagnik Roy, Kaustabh Bendre, Sayantan Kushari) defeated Mavericks (Subodh Maskara, Anirudha Bhattyacharya, Keyzad ankelsaria, Heral Eide, Ami Zamir, Oren Toledano) by 62 IMPS, the final score stands as 159 - 97. In the playoffs, Rampage (Maneesh Bahuguna, Animesh Raj, Vikrant Mehta, Sandeep Thakral, Jitesh Agarwal) defeated Monica Jajoo (Monica Jajoo, Sukamal Das, Sanjit Dey, Binod Shaw, Padmanabhan Sridharan, S Sunderram) by 45 IMPs, there total score was 113 - 68.

  • Matchpoint Pairs: After the 3 session Elimination of Matchpoint pairs, top 50 pairs qualified for the Matchpoint pairs final. Total 52 pairs including two sponsored pair competed for the crown and after a hard fought battle, Satyabrata Mukherjee and Pinaki Prasad khan (MP: 772.95) emrges victorious, while the runner-up was Vinay Desai and Raju Tolani (MP: 737.68) followed by Sambhu  Nath Ghosh and Biswajit Poddar (736.28) in the 3rd position.

  • IMP Pairs: This event focused on the international matchpoint scoring system, where pairs accumulated points based on the relative performance of their hands. 115 pairs participated in this event and Rathindra Nath Kundu and R Anbazhagan came first whereas Vibhas Todi and Satyabrata Lahiri stood second followed by Pulank Panji and Gourab Biswas.

Closing Ceremony

The championship concluded with a grand closing ceremony, celebrating the spirit of the game and the achievements of the participants. Winners were felicitated with trophies and cash prizes, recognizing their exceptional performances. The event not only showcased the depth of talent in Indian bridge but also fostered camaraderie and sportsmanship among players.
